Hello!

I am Joanne Gong.
UX Designer | Visual Communicator
At age six, I had to beg my mother for drawing lessons at the community centre. It took much effort to persuade her, because in her words, “I want you to work a civil servant job, and not something like drawing and painting. You will be broke.”
Twenty-two years later, she’s right. My bank account can do better if I took those jobs. Nevertheless, the fulfilment of doing what I truly love outweighs everything else. Today, I am a Senior Graphic Designer with a strong multidisciplinary background in Advertising, Graphic Design, and Editorial Design.
Amid my career, I often found myself wondering about the end-users. Are my creative works speaking to the users? Am I connecting to them? Am I solving both my clients and users’ problems?
As a designer, understanding the human experience is essential.
It was the reason why I was prompted to join a UI/UX course in General Assembly. I am driven by curiosity and strive to understand users’ needs, providing user-centric solutions for various stakeholders that is essential for creating useful and effective products and interfaces. I enjoy using my varied skill set to create beautiful and functional outcomes. With my newly acquired UI/UX knowledge, I can do just that.
In my spare time, I enjoy brewing kombuchas and discovering unexpectedly delicious flavours. I also like to hike and cycle, basking in the early morning sunlight and soaking up nature’s beauty. I am also passionate about century egg with tofu (no kidding!).
